Alex has ben working with Sodder's childhood Mirror for a while, trying to research its impact on others, and see if she can plumb some sort of secret out of it. After months of effort, she manages to achieve success in the most unexpected of ways!
While on the one hand, holding the mirror up to another mirror seems in its own way the most obvious of things to try, it initially never does anything. One day, however, perhaps by accident and perhaps by intentionality, Alex manages to point the mirror at a reflective surface of some sort, which is itself reflected. It is at this instant that the unexpected happens. The moment that the child's reflection in the mirror is reflected and reflected again, and Alex first sees her, she will have a very brief glance at a figure that is anything but human. She cannot remember what she saw in that instant, but it forever sears itself into her mind that she was looking at something that was unnatural and decidedly alien. She can remember only two words.
'One Eye.'
THE MAZE:
The moment is gone in an instant, and the neurons that carry the memory of what might have been someone's true form, or what might not, are gone. And with them, Alex finds herself suddenly standing inside of a mirror maze. She is not alone. Others find themselves within it. Anyone within a hundred feet of her at the time that she attempts this, whether aware of her intentions or not, may find themselves trapped in the same mirror maze. They need not meet, but they will all see the same vision.
Everywhere they look, they will see reflections recursively of themselves. The only real guide to show where they are is that the immediate reflection of themselves looks 'normal.' However, when mirrors reflect other mirrors and they see their vision across multiple landscapes, they can see alternate versions of themselves. Some are old. Some are young. Perhaps one stands with a spouse. Perhaps another is in a state of death. The visions all seem to stare directly at them, accusatory looks in their eyes. They cannot reach through the glass, but the building sensation nearly screams that they desire nothing less than to do so, to reach through, to drag the Sleeper into the mirror and replace them.
Even if they touch the glass, nothing comes through, though there is a feeling of warmth in the mirror, as if the hand there was real. Did their closest reflection smile? Best to keep moving. Thankfully the mirrors are themselves indestructible. No amount of magic will even scratch their surface. No fist punch through. It means that it is only a matter of time before they eventually walk their way through the pathways. Eventually, they can see an open pathway into a room. As they step through the threshold, a disjointed, alien voice that sounds horrifyingly like their own whispers directly in their ear.
"Why you and not us...?"
THE ROOM:
The moment that they walk through the entryway, they can feel that they are no longer in the maze. A look back finds only a wall. All around them is a room that appears on the surface to be a laboratory and surgical suite of the most elaborate and highest technological equivalency imaginable. Even for those from hyper advanced civilizations and space-faring races, what they see within is enough to boggle the mind. The equipment appears nearly a century more advanced than their own, only barely synching up with their understanding of medical equipment so that they can guess what it is, what it might do, but not understand it in detail. The walls themselves, however, look to be made of some sort of faintly glowing purple crystal, which sheds the light that keeps the chamber lit in a stable light.
Central within the room is a hospital bed. A girl, familiar to some, less to others, stares at them from her seat on the lip of the bed. She wear a quiet, curious, enigmatic smile. The bed behind her is covered in a filthy black ink-stain that smells strongly of copper, as if it were mixed with blood. The girl, while she is dressed in a hospital smock, seems entirely fine, kicking her heels. Her body is covered in bandages, but she does not currently seem to be in pain. Only one eye is uncovered currently, looking at them with an oddly confused look.
"You are not supposed to be here," she says, before giggling. "But I suppose you aren't actually here are you, so maybe it's ok this once." She gestures, as if they are free to ask a question or two, or look around.
Looking around will find that, between the banks of the equipment in the lab there are windows. It is hard to tell why, but there are seemingly seven of them all around. Through one, a macabre version of Deerington can be seen, looking like a blood-drenched, gothic city surrounded by monsters, thick glowing rents in it letting through brilliant white light while it wavers in all directions. Through another, it almost looks as if the window is shattered, though a touch sees it is still intact. Glass shards litter the ground, as far as the eye can see, in each of them pastel-clad citizens, screaming in horror as the town of Deerington appears to be broken into a thousand pieces. Through another, a great forest as far as the eye can see is visible, now in a state of winter with the snow covering its blankets of autum leaves, cold, lifeless, dead. Through still another they can see a town that looks like it has been rent in an apocalypse, wastes hunkered in the corners, fending for any food they can find, hiding and staring to the sky in horror. To those who have seen them, more and more, they can see that it almost seems like they are looking upon all of the layers of Deerington, each and every one of them. some of them are destroyed, ruined and shattered, but others seem more or less intact.
As they look, the girl pipes up. "You know, it all started here, basically." She turned her head to look at the Sleeper, her smile sad. "In a way, you're all here. All of you. None of us has ever left that moment, and yet time has past. Strange isn't it? But I guess it's true what they say. It's all relative."
She giggled and hopped down, padding to the person's side. "You know, you're not actually talking to me, don't you? You should go. Before I realize you're here. I'm not actually ready for us to meet." And, as she gestured, a door seemed to materialize. Each time the Sleeper blinked, it changed. One second, it was flesh and blood, reeking of bodily fluids. Another, it was a great wooden tree root system around a green light, and the other it was crystalline, purple, full of a sea of stars, almost like the doors in another place. "There's only one way out of here, though. Sorry. This is going to hurt." She gave a gentle, but firm shove. It was clear. There might be time or a single question, maybe two.
Any question asked would receive enigmatic, unclear answers. "I don't really know the right answer for you. Like I said, I'm not who you think I am. Nothing is what you think it is. It's all relative, after all. Distance and time are relative. It's all what you believe, in the end," she would say. "But you aren't ready to be here, and I'm not ready to see you. Until then, you should go." The compulsion at this point, whatever incomplete and unfulfilling answers one had managed to get, was unavoidable.
The moment that the sleeper's hand goes to the door, blinding pain seared through their mind. Hellish words screamed in their head. "GET OUT!" And their head throbbing, they would wake in their beds drenched in sweat. The headache would last for a day.
Notes: "Sodder's" true appearance cannot be remembered by Alex and only appears once. she isn't even sure if 'one eye' is correct. She's sure only that she saw her for a moment.
Mirror images and alternate selves can be from any alternate canon or player devised variety. They cannot be directly interacted with, but they can be observed and commented on.
"Sodder" in the vision won't say much, beyond what is said here. she will answer questions cryptically, vaguely and in a way that doesn't really answer the question, no matter what the question is. She cannot be harmed, and any attempt to do so will find her behind the person, giggling in amusement.
The mirror maze can appear no more than once per 48 hours, and after the first occasion it appears, it can happen at random, or by intention at any time that Sodder's Mirror reflects another reflective surface, allowing for this vision to occur multiple times.
If Sleepers refuse to leave the vision? Sodder will eventually giggle and push them out, and the moment they connect with the door, they will hear the voice in their head and wake up.
