Deerington Social Media




Social Media









While the majority of Deerington takes place in the 1950s the Fluids that characters are given upon arrival are not from the 1950s. Their functionality is similar to those of smart phones and as such they are full of social media! Deerington has three major social media apps: deerFeed, deerlyBeloved and Staggr (newly instated as of 11/2019). All of these social media services are 100% optional but serve as a fun way to be more immersed in the setting. Please read more about each application and its functionality in the section linked below!

Please remember that all social media content is 100% optional. Characters do not need to utilize any of these for the game. They don't serve to the primary story. They are just for additional fun and world building.

If you would like your character's social media information to be updated to the list please add your character's appropriate link(s) to the masterlist linked below. The majority of people primarily list their Staggrs as it connects all social media, but you may choose to link others. If you have any questions about how to work the spreadsheet you may ask in a question below.

THE FLUID




The Fluid is given to every Sleeper upon arrival. It's gifted in their Blessings Basket. The phone functions virtually the exact same as a regular smart phone save for a few interesting features. For starters, it's indestructible. It can, however, be lost. Turning on the 'Bracelet Feature' will curl the phone up. The interior screen will shut off and the exterior screen will turn on. You lock the phone around your wrist and the phone will display preferred settings such as the time, your pulse, and messages that might pop up.


This phone charges on either a small, flat charging board called a Platform or through a traditional cord-type charger. The Platform is valuable for going on long trips as it is solar powered and can keep your phone charged even when going on expeditions into the woods (or other places) for days at a time. The traditional cord charger will give your phone full battery life within an hour. The Platform charges it fully within 3 hours.

Phones are hackable, but any hacking must be done with OOC permission. The phone will come in an unwrapped, brand new box complete with very detailed instructions on how to use the phone as well as the apps within it. It looks like the instruction manual was even made for people who have never encountered smartphones in mind.

Social Media App icons will be readily available on the phone such as deerFeed, deerlyBeloved, and Staggr. Characters can find tutorials on how to use each application if it is their first time using them. They can skip these tutorials or use them.

The phone can transmit texts, videos, audio files, and images in either setting. Emojis are available on the phone as well as an arsenal of gifs. The phone has an incredible camera function on it as well as a very powerful flashlight. It also has a night vision setting, though the night vision setting drains the battery very fast. The regular battery life of these phones is 24 hours, but using the night vision will shorten the life span to only 8 hours.

Characters technically don't need to use this if they don't want to, but you know. It'll make life a whole lot easier for them if they do. If a character uses the phone to call emergency numbers such as 911, they will simply be connected to the hospital. They will never be able to contact the police or fire station.

Characters With Hearing/Visual/Physical Limitations: The Fluid is capable of providing subtitles for those who need them turned on. You can also include a subtitle option for videos your character personally makes so that they're automatically included in transmissions.

There are audible translations available as well for those who may need them. These can translate to characters who find it easier to speak-to-text translate things or have text read to them. This may be useful for those who have limited physical capabilities or limited visual capabilities.



deerFeed

deerFeed is the primary network community for the entire game. This is where characters can make video, audio, or text posts and exchange information. Posts can be made private or open.

While it is not required, most characters have a "username" on the site to identify their characters and portray it as such: "un:______" in their posts.

UNs can be changed at any time.

deerFeed functions as a Twitter like feed that all characters have access to upon joining the game. They can look at older posts so long as the posts are open, and they can even interact with them (though they may not be able to guarantee a response).

Please assume that any "profile" pictures or information associated with someone's deerFeed account is that found on their Staggr page. This is to help maintain IC understanding of what information characters willingly have available for other characters to see such as any pictures, their name, or age. Please check out the Staggr section of this page for more information.

Functions of deerFeed


deerFeed functions like a multimedia communications platform. Characters are able to look up music through their deerFeed as well as videos, gifs, and memes.

It can be safely assumed that characters can find any music that has been recorded on our earth. If you can find a song on Youtube, you can find a song on deerFeed. Similarly can be said for memes, gifs, and videos.

In terms of potential fourth-walling you can assume characters may be able to find content of their own media. However we completely leave this up to the individual players if they would want to do this.

On that note please make absolute sure that if you use any sort of fourth-wall media with another player that the player is comfortable with such fourth-walling. Always ask permission or check out their permissions page!

You can assume that deerFeed can work similarly to Twitter in that you can @ people to draw their attention or "block" people you don't like (please make this sort of interaction is mutual OOCly).

Threads may be crashed similarly (though always make sure to ask players before hand).





deerlyBeloved

deerlyBeloved was introduced to the game in the 2019 February Event. It's a mischievous but ultimately harmless little application that puts itself onto a character's profile and sets up a "dating profile" for them. The application plays a trickster-style Cupid for characters in trying to set them up with romantic prospects, flings, or maybe just some friends. At the end of the day deerlyBeloved just thinks you're really lonely, buddy, and it just wants to help!

deerlyBeloved profiles are made to be a more lighthearted and fun way of messing with characters. They're mostly meant to poke fun and have fun with the whole dating app scene.

Characters don't ICly create the information on the page ultimately which means you can have some wild stuff on there that a character normally would never put about themselves!

However characters with technological abilities or skills are capable of hacking this technology and correcting information or taking it away altogether...

...Of course those hacks might not be permanent and the app might find its way back onto your phone!

deerlyBeloved profiles can change at any time! They also seem capable of getting pictures of characters that either don't exist / pictures the character doesn't remember taking or other such things- so please feel free to use sultry fanart or ridiculous pictures.

This application is meant to be put on your personal profile. It can be used similarly to deerFeed/your inbox where people can respond at any given time.

STAGGR

Staggr is the newly created app for the game as of 11/2019! Staggr is an ICly managed social media page where characters can manage what information is available about themselves to other characters. The Staggr is meant to serve as the focal point of all their social media and serve as a way for characters to be able to track each other's contact information.

Staggr provides links to character inboxes, deerFeed handles, and deerlyBeloved accounts.

Staggr also shows the character's ICly selected profile picture that other characters would see on their DF & DB & their Inbox posts. Staggr also shows ANY and ALL IC information that the character themselves would upload.

This is to help prevent accidental infomodding on the network. If a character wants to ICly lie about their name, age, sexuality, address, occupation, or anything else, this is where they can do that and characters can ICly assume that the information given on the Staggr profile is "true". Alternatively, obviously, people can just be completely honest on these profiles. In any case it is a way to keep IC available information straight among characters on their social media accounts.

Staggr serves as a profile that's directly linked to each social media account and it can be assumed that all characters have access to any hooked up Staggrs.

Staggrs are to be posted on your personal journals.

Staggr acts as both a social platform as well as a professional platform. It can be assumed that this may potentially be your character's "resume" for jobs or just a way to present their credentials such as any schooling they might have. Please feel free to use your Staggr to manage your personal businesses in the game.

You can also feel free to use a Staggr page as your character's general inbox! While there is a link for a character's inbox in the "Contact" section of the Staggr, you can always delete this line.

Characters do not need to fill out their complete Staggr forms. They can leave certain sections blank or ambigious if they should choose to do so. Staggrs can be hacked, but please make sure to do so with OOC permission.
