Sodder's Heart

Sodder's Heart

This page details the experience of accessing Sodder's Heart. Sodder's Heart and the mini-events that come with it (known as "Valves") are an optional feature of the game to explore.

Players can collect golden drachma through the Great Sleep, events in-game that clarify drachma as a reward for something, or through purchase of rewards points.

In order to open a Valve, you must pay your drachma to this page directly. Please comment to the appropriate section to access a Valve. Thank you!

Any questions about Sodder's Heart may be asked here.

DETAILS

Sodder's Heart appeared over the Lab during the July 2019 Event. This was after a message from Sodder on Deerfeed communicating that she would be trying to strengthen herself as well as the Sleepers through the use of the Great Sleep.

The Heart can be seen throughout Deerington though clouds may cover it up during stormy weather. At night it casts a soft blue light over some of town. The heart now reflects Sodder's "health" and characters will be able to determine how Sodder is doing through the appearance of her heart. The condition of her heart will be made clear through event preludes whenever necessary.

But what about when you actually go and try to access her heart?

As of August 2019 characters are able to "access" the heart. Sodder's heart serves as a major function for the main premise of the game. It is entirely optional for characters to interact with her heart and the mini-events associated with it. These mini-events, called "Valves", will offer various experiences.

The traditional way to get to the Lab is through the No-Where Stairs. However, as of August 2019, characters seeking Sodder's heart specifically will find strange Doorways spread throughout the National Park.

When a character steps through these Doorways they will appear directly outside of the Lab. A bit easier than taking the stairs, huh?

At the Lab, Sodder's Heart doesn't look anything like the diamond seen from the town. Instead a very literal heart has manifested against the side of the Lab that's roughly 1/4th the size of the Lab itself. This heart has a steady, deep beating, and you can see a sheen from where you stand.

But what about getting there? Anyone who has been to the Lab before know that it's no walk in the park.

If you have two powered drachma on your person you will find that they suddenly begin to feel extremely hot. Take them out and they will begin to sing a soft nursery rhyme of some sort. Any plain, non-powered drachma you have on your person will remain silent, but feel ice-cold to the touch.

Hopefully you might be familiar with the story of how golden drachma were used to get into the Greek underworld, otherwise you might be stumped as to what you're supposed to do with the coins.

Those who are in the know can try tossing their golden drachma into the mote that surrounds the Lab:

The water in the mote will instantly begin to show streaks of blood until the mote swells with blood instead of water. The blood will rise up, up, up, until it's crashing into you like a tidal wave. It's horrible for approximately five or ten seconds since it's nothing but hot, thick blood washing over you, but then it's over as soon as it's begun, and you're left completely dry and without a fleck of blood on you inside of....

Well, it looks like you're inside of the heart itself. The floors and walls and even the ceiling are all made of the kind of muscle tissue you'd find in a heart. You could even cut out samples of the walls or floor and you would be able to confirm that yup, that's a human heart all right. And it's our first real, physical proof of Sodder being an actual person because the DNA evidence there is as regular as anyone else's. Be careful though...It looks like whatever samples you decide to take don't exactly grow back. This heart might be the real deal.

All around you you can hear the thumping of the heart as well as see it and feel it beating all around you. The air is thick and humid, and it's impossible to escape the smell of blood, but what do you expect? You're in an organ.

Typical hearts have four valves and anyone with a medical eye would know as much. This heart is shaped a lot differently than typical hearts. You can see multiple valve openings here and there, and most of them are closed. But if you paid your way, then one or more may be open. Some might be easier to access- as simple as walking across the floor over to its opening.

Others you might have to use the sinew of the heart's muscle to climb the walls and up into the opened Valves.

Oh well, no one ever said exploring a heart would be easy.

Once you're inside of the Valve, it will be every bit as realistic as the outside, only the Valves have a steady current of blood on the floor. Hope you're wearing reliable shoes!

It's pitch black, and even light or night vision won't offer much since it's just a long, long path, but suddenly it gives way to a bit of a slip-n-slide and you're hurtling down..down..and into your newest Valve experience.

Good luck.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the drachma technically paying for? How does the payment of drachma work?

It costs two powered drachma to open up a single Valve for your character to explore. They also aid in getting your character access into the heart in the first place.

Drachma can be gained by going to the Great Sleep, various game events, or through rewards points.

A character must use a minimum of two powered drachma to access a Valve. Your character can give other character's powered drachma to use for themselves- but just make sure you or the other player clarify as much when using the coins on this page.

It costs two powered drachma per Valve, but multiple Valves may be open at the same time if a character has enough drachma for it. In other words, if a character threw in four powered drachma at the same time, they could open access two Valves. The same logic applies infinitely.

Once a Valve is opened by a character, that Valve will remain open to that character. A character can revisit the same Valve even if they don't have powered drachma by throwing two plain drachma into the mote.

If your character has never paid/opened a Valve ever before and tries to throw plain drachma into the mote they can still wind up in the heart, but none of the Valves will be available to them at all.

Once a character has thrown their drachma into the mote, plain or powered, they cannot get those drachma back.

You do not need to make any formal request for your character to use plain drachma to revisit/access the heart. Formal requests are only for those wishing to open a Valve for their character to explore.

How does proof of payments work?

You have four (technically) options!

The first option is to request for two+ powered drachma on the Rewards Page and once it has been accepted, fill out the appropriate form below with a link to your accepted rewards.

The second option is to link the appropriate threads that involve your character exploring the pathways that can be accessed in the Great Sleep.

All threads must be different threads, but they can be threads that have the same characters involved or the same pathways being explored.

Linked threads can be from top levels, events, closed logs, or inboxes. If your character began to explore a pathway stemming from a conversation on DeerFeed, that may also count so long as they are actually exploring the pathway in your linked proof.

Alternatively if you made a top level/open log where your character's pathways were explored six+ times you may just link the top level/open log.

Each linked thread must have at least three comments from your character. This may include the original starter.

Your third option is to share drachma with each other! This means one player will have to upload the proof for their powered drachma, and in the form state who they are going to be sharing their powered drachma with.

The other players will have to state on their form who their characters will be getting the drachma from!

While we state this as the "sharing" option, you can ICly play this out how you want. Characters can "steal" drachma from one another or receive it in other nefarious ways. Or you can just have your character be nice and give their buddy some drachma! We leave that part up to you!

The "fourth option" is that you can mix all of these up! Meaning you can have one powered drachma through sharing and one through rewards or one through pathways and one through sharing. We don't care about how you pay for Valves so long as you do!

What are Valves?

"Valves" are essentially mini-events that will be posted sporadically within the game. These Valves are much different than primary game events since you have to supply drachma in order for your character to access them and you can access them at any time.

Your character will enter Sodder's Heart and see that a new "Valve" has opened. Entering the Valve will take them to a new experience that will sometimes be memories from Sodder's life that supply characters with details about Deerington or they will be interactive features of the game such as potential monsters or even locations within the lab.

Every Valve will offer characters something new and directly related to the overall story of Deerington to interact with. You can choose to interact with these at your own pace! They are a completely optional feature of the game!

Whenever a new Valve is made accessible the game will make announcements on its Discord and Plurk.

ICly whenever a new Valve is accessible to characters they will be able to tell due to Sodder's Heart going from blue to a deep, purple/red from atop of the mountain. This effect will only last for an hour before it returns to its original blue color.

VALVES

Introduction

Since every Valve is accessible at any point during the game, we will list all of the opened Valves and brief summaries about what you can expect to find within them.

You can pay for Valves at any point- even if they are not yet open. This will allow you instant access when they finally are open. Your character will be able to enter the Heart the same way if they have paid for their Valves, but any unopened Valves will remain unopened inside the heart itself.

You may post your character interacting with the Valve to the Valve's posting itself or you can make a private log on your own time.
