CHARACTER HOUSING

Welcome to our Character Housing page!

There are several residential options that can be found on the housing information page. Characters will be automatically placed by the world in the houses that are most appropriate for both their personality as well as their canon income.

There will be some events that may force characters to temporarily be out of their residence, but homes will remain otherwise untouched by the majority of events.

Please make sure in all house sharing/rooming situations that all parties involved are in agreement.

Housing Requests

Please refer to the appropriate comment section below for your housing requests. Once your information has been updated to the spreadsheet your comment will be deleted.

You may update your character housing information at any time.

Characters can build their own homes on any given address that would be appropriate for building a home on (for example: it would be easier to build a house in Clarke Acres where there is a lot of land as opposed to inside of the town).

Characters can alternate their current homes through magic or regular construction. Particularly enhanced homes might need to use AC Bonus Points to purchase materials for said homes.

All homes altered by characters will revert to normal if a character has dropped out of the game and no one is remaining at the home.

If there is anything unique about your home that you would like people to know about, or generally would just like to let people know what it looks like, we encourage creating a page on your own journal that you can link to for house details.

As of 10/2019 characters may now have multiple housing locations. They may use these different locations for whatever various purposes they may see fit.

Hello, I was wondering if I could get some advice on housing numbers! I was debating putting a character on Howard Hill, but I see there are two different streets for it, the one where it starts near Main Street, and the one past the river near Parks and Rec.

What sort of house number would work best if I wanted to go for the latter on the Parks and Rec side? Would that be in the 2000+ range?

So does a Cuckoo Hills resident have to be there at the gate to let someone from outside in, or can they get buzzed in? Because I realized it would be somewhat hilarious if Franciscus got stuck in his house during the December event and no one could get in to help.

They can get buzzed in, but things like this can always malfunction or be out of order at player convenience if that's something you'd like to do.

In his TDM thread, Cullen woke up in Mike's house at 433 Allison Road in Dunwich Hollow, is it alright for characters to share housing?

Hello! so I'm a dummy and totally misread Frank and Sarissa's apartment numbers (at David Cliff) and so we've been playing them as being neighbours. Would it be okay to change Sarissa's apartment number to 527 so the dumb neighbour cr isn't a lie?

If a character doesn't have any canon income per se but is used to a particular lifestyle/level of comfort, can one of the more expensive locations be claimed if it fits with their personality?

Hey! Sorry for the delay. I was away from the computer for a few days. The sewers have come up in events before, so I am going to check with the head mod about this and get back to you asap as to whether or not it's a viable permanent residence.

EDIT: Yes, you can have your character live in a sewer area. Choose an empty address that would be above the sewer he will live in and we can notate that he's actually in the sewer below. There are creatures and monsters in the sewer, but his section can be walled off against them.

If a character decides to move in with another character, would they be allowed to still keep their old residence if they wanted to for whatever reason?

Characters can only have one official residence, however you are welcome to keep the character listed at the one they are keeping alone and they are not required to sleep or keep their things there (IE they can be essentially living at another character's residence, but they won't be listed at both on this list)

No, you can just have him put there on the list. If you want to handwave him moving out of another residence quickly, that's fine and you don't need to fill anything out for that.

Would it be possible to set up a rooftop garden on one of the buildings at David Cliffe Apartments? Potentially open to whoever has rooftop access or wanders up there.

Changes like that should be fine provided the character has the IC resources to do it, it won't involve anything power or technology-related that would need to be bought with AC points and that all players whose character's living spaces are affected are okay with it. A normal rooftop garden should be well within any job's means.

So I can check with the right players, how many buildings are there at the David Cliffe apartment complex? Or if you have the number range for each that would be great!

In the case of David Cliff, it's so big that it should be safe to say you can claim a section of roof for a garden without it affecting other player's ability to also use other sections of the roof or for it to affect their immediate living spaces. The roofs are connected so you don't have to worry too much about the placement of the garden on the roof.

If you'd like, once it's completed, you can comment in the new housing section that there is now a roof garden on part of the roof and I can link to a page about it on the spreadsheet if you want to make one.

Apologies if this has been asked before but I didn't see it around when I checked: what kind of furnishings can new characters expect in their homes? I noticed beds and kitchen utilities were listed as included and was wondering if other items are as well (tables, couches, etc.)

Specifically, if a character lives in a creepy old haunted house like those at Flatwoods Point, could they expect to find any old belongings in the attic or basement? Thanks!

The houses will be furnished to their needs and while magical or high-tech items would not be found, it would be fine for the character to find some old items in their attic that are period-appropriate for the setting such as old clothing or furniture. It can't be anything you would have to pay AC points to get, but harmless or mundane period-appropriate items for flavor shouldn't be a problem.

Is it possible to reside in the church as a member/staff?

Yes, it's allowed! There would be lodging that you'd probably find at any typical church, though it is very run down like the rest of the church.

Bit of a ridiculous question, but I might as well ask anyway: regarding any housing numbers re: the gated community, would it be alright to utilize numbers that weren't already listed on the spreadsheet, given that they're in a reasonable number?

So sorry! I thought I answered this, but I think DW might have eaten the response. There is only one street that is limited and it says so on the spread sheet. Anything else is fine as long as the number is reasonable with the numbers already there.

Hey mods! Sorry, I've got a question here, and then a question for jobs that I'll post over there.

Okay, so, what I'm wanting is a house a paranoid man would build/rebuild. So, a bomb shelter below, and secret passageways leading to a secret room. Also booby traps but those wouldn't take much time to set up. But that's my question: When people request to build houses or do extensive remodeling, do they have to wait to have it built or is it an instant thing?

It won't be instant, but as long as it's done with materials available in game and bought with your character's money, you don't need approval for renovations. Mundane building materials should be acquirable. Anything magical or high tech would need to be paid for with ac points currently. We don't micromanage how money works in the town, so it's up to your discretion how easy or difficult it is to afford things given what sort of income they might have. That said, the homes are found to be suited to the characters, so having some odd passages or even a fortified basement (appropriate of the 1950s level of fortification) isn't too much of an ask.

Although Lysithea is only sixteen, she would make an attempt to be enrolled into the community college and stay in the community college dorms (she's in a similar situation in canon where she's the youngest student accepted into the Officers Academy). Would the town allow for this or would she be forced to enroll in high school and live elsewhere?

She would be allowed to enroll in to the college and stay in the dorms, yes!
